Redweather hit the national and international news recently during filming of our new series on underground history for HTV (due for transmission in 2004). Whilst helping our crew to film deep inside the spectacular Otter Hole cave, expert caver Laura Trowbridge fell and injured her back. Unfortunately she was unable to move and a major cave rescue swung into action. Apart from being very tight and confined Otter Hole is the only cave in the country where you deliberately get trapped inside by the rising tide - this makes it a very difficult location for filming and added hugely to the problems of the fantastic 100 strong rescue team. The rescue's progress was flashed all across the world and for two days the quiet woods near Chepstow were alive with emergency services and the press core. Gloucestershire Cave Rescue Group where helped by delegates from ResCon, the national cave rescue conference which was, by a happy coincidence, taking place nearby! They performed an unbelievable feat in bringing Laura safely to the surface within 36 hours. Laura is now recovering well, but with at least three cracked bones she won’t be back caving with us for a while yet. Filming of the series, presented by Chris Serle, is continuing, but watch this space for Laura’s return to Otter Hole...planned for the spring - if she can drag us back in there!
